The electric trolling motor is the most valuable thing in the boat. It cost more than other trolling motors such as outdoor trolling and gasoline trolling motors. Boat positioning and working structure is the main reason to buy electric trolling motors. There are a few things that need to be considered before purchasing one. They are
Size
First, you need to consider the size. The size of the electric trolling motor should not be oversized or undersized. It should correctly fit the size of the boat.
The type of fishing you may usually have should be considered when choosing the size of the 24v trolling motor wiring. You need to also know what the river condition is and the current wind condition. This is important for choosing an electric motor to withstand the current condition.
Shaft length
The length of the shaft is important to be considered. If you buy an electric trolling motor with a short shaft then you will experience some wind and wavy conditions, there may be bouncing off the propeller for each wave. By this, you could lose control of the boat. So it is advantageous to buy a longer shaft that may be able to drive the boat smoothly.
Power capacity
If you have a choice of choosing the 12 v and 24v trolling motor wiring models. Then choose the 24 v electric trolling motor without thinking anything. Because the 12v model has only the 1 deep cycle battery but the 24v model has two deep cycle batteries.
More battery means providing more power. So the 24 v model is a bigger advantage when you are planning to go long for fishing.
Props
Electric trolling motor props are commonly available in two, three, or four-blade versions. A two-bladed electric trolling motor propeller is designed for speed and power. This would be the prop of choice for open water, deep water, and/or large water fishing.
A two-bladed prop, on the other hand, does not do well in the weeds. Weeds will just wrap around your two-bladed prop, ultimately preventing it from spinning. This means you’ll have to stop fishing frequently to remove your electric trolling motor from the water, clean the weeds off your prop, and then resume fishing.
But 3 or 4 blade version props can easily go through the weeds. There are no restrictions to any location when you these versions of props. It will save you more time for fishing.
So 2 blade version is not better than 3 or 4 props and having more blades is best for fishing and friendly to shallow water.
Bow mount of transom mount motor
Whether you select a bow mount or a transom mount, have a fish finder close at hand. It is critical to be able to see the structure you are fishing while moving with your electric motor… it is a requirement!
Bow mounted electric trolling motor is more recommended for fishing from the front of the boat and find it simpler to handle the boat from this position. If your main usage for your electric motor is working structure, a bow-mounted electric trolling motor is also a good option.
If you intend to use your electric trolling motor to slowly and quietly troll along, a transom-mounted electric trolling motor is ideal.
